Why Mulch Sales Are An Excellent Way To Raise Funds.
Mulch has proven itself to be a great way to raise money because it’s become an increasingly popular commodity for homes and businesses. Because of its profitability, many organizations such as churches, schools and Boy Scout troops have tried mulch as a fundraiser and have added it to their annual fundraising programs.
When To Have Your Mulch Sale
Pre-selling should start as early as January.
By pre-selling and collecting early, you can increase your profits by taking advantage of our pre-pay programs. We highly recommend that you choose one weekend from mid-March thru mid-April for your product distribution.
Where To Have Your Mulch Delivered
Your organization will need to obtain a parking lot large enough to store the mulch and accommodate a tractor trailer. It must also have enough space for customer pick up and truck loading for your deliveries.
What Kind Of Mulch Products To Sell
Keeping it simple is highly recommended. Our bagged dark hardwood bark mulches have proven to be the best sellers for a fundraiser.
|
|
Cypress mulch and other products are also available. An Ohio Mulch representative will assist you with your product selection. Samples of all our products are available please contact us at our Symmes Twp. location (513) 677 - 2066.
How Much Can You Expect To Profit?
You will be able to profit as much as $1.50 per bag, depending on your services offered. In addition, offering a delivery service can greatly increase your sales. Some high schools and Boy Scout troops have each shown a profit in excess of $25,000.
What Kind Of Staff Do You Need?
Volunteers. You will need people to lead the operation, a treasurer, a bookkeeper, someone to oversee inventory, others to load and deliver mulch and a sales staff. While it may seem complicated, it’s really not.
How Are Your Customers Going To Get Their Mulch?
Distribution from your site is accomplished with a delivery service and customer pick up. Vans and pick-up trucks will be needed to deliver the mulch. Some larger organizations will rent a large truck to keep the reload trips to a minimum and a forklift to load it. Flatbed trucks work best.

How Will You Market Your Mulch?
Start Early! Advertise in all your organization’s newsletters and bulletins, use word of mouth, make signs and sell door to door. Some organizations will have pamphlets made with product descriptions, pricing, services and a mission statement. Ohio Mulch has been an established business for almost 20 years and our products are of the highest quality. The use of our name and logo in your literature will greatly enhance your sales. Providing your sales staff with samples is very important. People want to see and touch the products.
Fundraiser Products
We recommend a 2 cubic foot bag for all the mulches for easier handling.
Premium Hardwood Bark Mulch – A medium grade with a dark brown color. Though it carries an average market price, it’s a quality product. We highly recommend this mulch as your primary product.
Premium Cypress Mulch – A medium texture and is reddish tan in color.
Pine Bark Mulch – A chippy texture with a brown color. This mulch has gained popularity and may also be requested.
Bagged Top Soil – A blend of top soil, sand and compost. It’s a great compliment to your mulch sale. Available in a 40 lb. bag.
Also Available, but shipped separately from the products above.
Blackgold Hardwood Bark Mulch – Our best hardwood mulch. It has a fine texture and aged to a black color. Because we are well known for this product, your customers may request it. It is available by full tractor trailer loads only and special arrangements have to be made for forklift unloading this product. Contact us for more information.
First Select Start and End Dates
Successful mulch sales are those that pre-sell. Most organizations will start taking

orders in January for an April distribution date. Sending your staff out door to door with literature and samples has proven to be the most effective sales method. Collecting payment early will commit the customer and bring in revenue.
A Tractor Trailer Load
A full tractor trailer load is typically 1080-1600 bags depending on the product (18-20 pallets, 60-90 bags per pallet). Each pallet of mulch weighs 1800-3800 lbs. Up to three different products can be shipped on each semi load, excluding Blackgold. Blackgold is shipped from a different location and a full load is 960 bags (16 pallets). All products are to be purchased at full pallet quantities only. Products can not be mixed on the same pallet. One tractor trailer load is our minimum order. A half load (10 pallet minimum) is acceptable beyond the first load, however a partial load fee of $50 will be applied.
Forklift Unloading
Tractor trailer loads must be unloaded by a forklift. If your organization is unable to obtain a forklift, a forklift can be brought with Ohio Mulch produced and shipped products. Other products, such as Blackgold, a forklift is not available to be brought with the load. A forklift unloading fee of $85 per load is charged. This fee may be reduced if three or more tractor trailer loads are delivered to the same location. Please contact us for more information.
Product Pricing
All of our fundraiser products are priced at our tractor trailer load pricing and is based on your location, quantity and forklift unloading. Please feel free to contact us at (513)677-2066 for a price quote.

After The Selling Is Complete
After your sales cut off date, contact your Ohio Mulch salesperson to help convert what you have sold into semi loads and to assist you with your ordering. Keep in mind, product that has been pre-sold and paid for is eligible for our pre-pay discounts.
Note: It is wise to order an additional 5-15% extra product to cover late sales and walk-in customers. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of fundraising programs we supply, neither your organization nor your customers have the option to pick up product from our retail locations for your fundraising event. Tractor trailer loads are shipped directly from the manufacturing facilities.
Mulch Ordering Deadline
Ohio Mulch must receive your final order 3 weeks prior to your distribution date. Small adjustments can made to your order, up to 3 days prior to shipment.
|
|
Delivery Of Your Mulch
Ohio Mulch requires a one week window prior to your distribution date for your delivery. Delivery the day of your distribution is not an option. A larger delivery window is necessary with 10 or more tractor trailer loads. All quantities are to be checked at time of delivery. No claim for shortage is allowed after the delivery is made.
Empty Pallets
Ohio Mulch will not pick up your empty pallets. Prior to your sale, it is important to find a local business that will accept empty pallets after the mulch has been distributed and while you still have volunteers with trucks.
